Canton wildlife control tip of the month:

Groundhog Prevention Tips: How to Keep Groundhogs Away

Keeping groundhogs away can prove to be a very difficult Canton animal control task. Vegetables that people grow are among their favorite foods and can be very tempting for them to invade gardens and farms. Therefore, people invest a lot to keep them away from those areas. Farm ponds are often destroyed by them because their burrows undermine foundations.

One of the least violent Canton wildlife removal solutions to groundhog invasion is to find their burrow entrance and plant some crops for them by the burrow. That way they will have a food source of their own and they will leave your crops alone. This may seem as a good solution, but the problem starts again if they decide to dig more burrows elsewhere. Another solution would be to simply transport them somewhere far and to plug their holes to prevent others from moving in. One problem with fences people put to keep them away is that they are diggers and if you do not burry your metal fence deep enough, they will easily dig their way under it. Even if you do burry your Canton pest control fence deep, they will dig even deeper. Wooden fences are no match for them; they will just eat their way through them. Fence solution is only good if the fence is buried at least 18 inches deep or deeper. Also, fences have to be at least 3 feet high since they are known to climb as well. One more good solution would be an electric fence.

Groundhogs can cause big Canton exterminator problems for sheds or porches because their burrows they dig under the porch or shed can collapse, causing the structure to collapse as well. If they spend a lot of time under the shed, they can dig out up to 700 pounds of earth from underneath it. That is the time one has to seek professional help since layman cannot determine whether the structure is in danger of collapse. One of the more natural Canton animal trapping ways to prevent groundhog menace is to have a big guard dog, some propose putting garlic around their burrows, Epsom salts have proven to do the trick sometimes, sprinkling cat litter around the garden can help sometimes. Scent of predators is something they do not like and will run away from it, so cats and dogs, even coyote urine can be an effective solution. There are numerous, nonviolent methods to keep them away and the above mentioned have proven to be effective in many cases.
